Maternity clothes can be EXPEN$IVE, especially when you factor in cost per wear. Here are some tips on how to save money on maternity clothes!

1) Buy Used If You Can

There are tons of apps and websites to purchase gently used clothes. My favorite is Poshmark! Poshmark is a simple way to buy and sell clothes by allowing you to search for specific items.

You can filter for size, color, condition and price of the item. One hack I use is to search for a specific item, and then sort the price from “low to high” so I always find the best deal. What is also great about Poshmark is that all items are shipped using expedited USPS Priority Mail at a flat rate.

You can also save on items from the same seller if you create a “bundle” by purchasing more than one item from their closet. I bundled this orange maternity top (originally $68) from A Pea in a Pod, and black 7 For All Mankind Skinny Maternity Jeans (originally $129) for only $60.

2) Buy Stretchy, Non-Maternity Clothes

Stick to non-maternity clothes that you can still wear when your’e not pregnant. Dresses and skirts that are loose or made of super stretchy knit fabrics are perfect!

3) Leggings

Leggings are your pregnant belly’s best friend. They come in so many options from active wear to dress pant style leggings. You can opt for maternity leggings or not. I had three different leggings on rotation throughout my pregnancy. This maternity active style from Motherhood Maternity.

The softest non-maternity Lululemon leggings. They are worth the money I swear! These bad boys fit my pre-baby body and my 9 month belly! They are that stretchy… not to mention super soft!

Finally this skinny maternity work pant. They feel like leggings but look just like professional work pants!

4) Blazers and Cardigans

Use blazers and cardigans to dress up your outfit. Pair one of these with either leggings or a stretchy dress and you’re good to go! The best part is that you can still wear them when you’re no longer pregnant. I wore this boyfriend style below to work almost every day!

This super soft cardigan was perfect for running errands or to lounge at home.

5) Slip-on Shoes

Slip on shoes are an essential pregnancy item. At some point your belly will be so big that you won’t be able to bend over to tie your shoes! You can opt for flats, slip on sneakers and booties! You might have to size up with these but you can always wear thicker socks with them once your feet drop back down to their normal size.

6) Stick to the Basics

Purchase some basic maternity tops that you can mix and match with your leggings, blazers and cardigans. I recommend purchasing three short sleeve tops, three tanks, three long sleeves and two sweaters. Adjust accordingly to match your climate! Thee were my favorite maternity tees, that I was able to dress up or down.

7) Hand Me Downs from Family, Friends or Co-workers

Don’t be afraid to wear hand me downs! As soon as my friends and coworkers found out I was pregnant, they offered me all their previously worn maternity clothes. I wore so many cute outfits that were practically new. It was nice knowing that I was also contributing to less waste by reusing rather than purchasing new.

8) Shop Your Closet

Go through your closet and select all the stretchy, knit fabric items as well as flowy tops, dresses and skirts. Put all of your other clothes in storage. That way you wont be overwhelmed with pieces that don’t fit you.

9) Invest in the Right Underwear

Invest in some good maternity shapewear. It will help your belly feel supported and secure and make your clothing look great! I purchased this pair from amazon and wore it underneath my stretchy dresses for a seamless look! Trust me, it’s a game changer!
